There is a group of people from the Willamette Valley that created international “Talk Like a Pirate Day.” That day is always September 19th.
On September 19th 2009 I leased the Masonic Lodge in Seaside, Oregon and we had a Pirate Milonga. I can’t find any of the photos from that event. But, there were a lot of very clever costumes. And, I submitted a group photo to the “Talk Like a Pirate” people. And, they posted it on their website.
I did find a file with the announcement I made for that event. It follows:
Argentine Tango Dance
You are invited to a weekend of fun and Argentine Tango at Seaside, Oregon on Saturday September 19, 2009. September 19th is International Talk Like a Pirate day (check out the website at http://www.talklikeapirate.com/ ). So, we have created this event to be a costume ball at the beach.
The event will be at the Seaside Masonic Lodge 201 N Holladay St.
There will be a Practica from 1pm to 4pm with introductory Tango lesson presented by Rebecca Smith and Eric Lindgren during the first hour.
In the evening from 8pm to 2am will be the Pirate Milonga (costume ball) with an introductory Tango Lesson taught by Aurora Nemirow during the first hour.
And, we are very fortunate that our DJ’s will be the fabulous Suba and Rebecca.
There will also be a demonstration dance by Eric Lindgren and Rebecca Smith during the Milonga.
The fee for the whole event is just $10. (You may attend the lesson and dance in the afternoon, and return for the costume ball at no additional charge.) There will be door prizes and prizes for great costumes. (This is a non-alcohol event.)
See you there!!!!
